With any new technology such as Starlink, it’s natural to have a question or two.
Here’s our roundup of the usual questions people ask when thinking about using Starlink.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for in this FAQ, we’d love to hear from you.
Our Most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How does Starlink work?
Our Starlink system connects to the mesh of laser-linked SpaceX satellites in low-earth orbit (around 550 km above the earth) around the globe via the supplied antenna (aka Dishy McFlatface- thanks Elon).
How does Starlink differ from other types of satellite internet?
Conventional satellite internet operates using a smaller number of geostationary satellites in high earth orbit (around 35,786km above the earth).
Because of this greater distance, the round-trip time for data is exceptionally high, resulting in high latency (around 600+ ms), meaning streaming, video calling and other high- data rate activities are next to impossible.
How fast is Starlink internet?
You can expect fibre-fast connections, with download speeds of 250-350 Mb/s, and upload speeds of 25-45 Mb/s.
Starlink internet only experiences around 25 ms of latency and is therefore perfect for everything from remote lan-arena gaming to handling the thousands of sales from an outdoor Christmas fair- and everything in between.
Is there anywhere that Starlink won’t work?
If you’re camping out in a nuclear bunker, or in a submarine, it’s possible that you’ll see a drop in satellite coverage. So perhaps don’t rely on us for post-apocalyptic internet access.

Will I need any of my own equipment?
No. Our Starlink rental packages include everything you need to connect to fibre-fast satellite internet.
Is it confusing to use?
Again- no! You can set the basic system up in no time at all using the supplied equipment and cables.
Larger setups, using multiple antennas and weatherproofed large capacity power supplies, may be a little more than you can handle though- in which case, we’ll carry out the temporary installation, and pack it down after use.
Can I use Starlink on the move?
Absolutely. Our mini dish, perfect for solo or family use, can be powered by a vehicles’ 12 volt power outlet (cigar lighter) allowing truly mobile internet- even at speed (tried and tested- just don’t ask how!)
We also offer a self-contained rucksack unit, consisting of the power supply, router, and antenna, allowing you to stay connected wherever you are.
Is the Starlink system weatherproof?
Yes- there are various levels of weatherproofing available to hire, starting from IP54, (suitable for most outdoor environments). If you think you may need a higher level of weatherproofing, give us a call.
Also, we’ve developed our own way of weatherproofing the battery systems for our larger setups- so you never have to worry about losing internet coverage, even in a downpour.
Where are you based?
We are based in Mid Wales, and ship from, our office in Llandrindod Wells.
Can I come to you directly?
Yes- if you’re local or in the area, by all means come and pick up your Starlink Rental system.
